I grew up in a small town
It was sunny everyday
My friends were all around me
I wish those days would stay

I only saw the good things
In this small world around me
I couldn’t realise
How life was going to be

Running up and down the street
Looking for some fun
Killing time with endless games
Until summer was gone

But then it came the day
When all this had to end
They piled us all together
And told us where to stand

We really don’t know why
We look the same

We’re dressed the same
We really don’t know how
We got in here

We have to raise our hands to talk

I was looking for my mom
She was smiling in the corner
She told me not to worry
Everything was in order

The teacher came and told me
Welcome in the system
Education is your new friend
You are here to obey and listen

Sitting in my bench
Waiting for the bell
To ring and set us free
I was never coming back

I ran like hell to home
My heart was filled with sorrow
Just so they could tell me
I was going back tomorrow

I cried all day
I didn’t want to go back
They told me is alright
Everybody went through that

School is here to help you
Make you smart and steal your dreams
Teach you how to stay in line
And obey the ones that preach

I wanted to be a poet
Travel around and see new places
To write about the people
And the smiles on their faces

But they kept me in a classroom
That was cold, dark and sick
They asked about our homework
And they chose someone to speak

One day he picks me
To stand up all alone
I was writing in my book
Didn’t know what was going on

He says, dreaming is for losers
Imagination is a sin
Now throw your book away
And pay attention to me

I’ll show you how to win this game
And get on top of the world
Make lots of money and enjoy all that is known
And one day you will graduate
